What is a SMART repair?
A SMART (Small to Medium Area Repair Technology) repair is a technique of repairing a car with the help of special tools, paint, and materials on the damaged area only. SMART repair does not necessitate the removal of a whole panel of the car or repainting it. Rather, by integrating modern paintwork technology, this technique enables us to concentrate on the affected region.
Before the auto SMART repairs process was developed, cars would require to be delivered to body repair shops, for days, or even weeks, for minor damages. It also used to cost an arm and a leg for a basic scratch, this is because to do a minor repair, an entire panel would have to be removed. Now, with revolutionary new methods, SMART repairs are possible where the affected areas can be repaired within hours rather than days. This then has a domino effect, cutting the cost of the repair significantly lower than that of the bodyshop service.

What are the benefits of a SMART repair?

What is the process of a SMART repair?
At your convenience, our mobile technicians will adhere to the following meticulous 12-step procedure to carry out your SMART repair:
1 – Arranging your visit
Our mobile repairers will come to a location of your choosing to complete the repair.
2 – Obtaining Your Colour Code
Every vehicle has a unique colour code corresponding to a specific paint formula. A Spectrophotometer or Colour Chips will determine the exact colour of your vehicle.
3 – Identifying Colour Formula and Mix Paint
Our specialist software provides a precise gram-by-gram breakdown of the paint’s composition, enabling us to replicate the exact colour using our range of tints.
4 – Cleaning The Damaged Area
We thoroughly clean and dry the damaged area to remove any residues, dirt, waxes, or silicones that could interfere with the repair process.
5 – Making The Vehicle
We carefully apply masking tape around adjacent panels, badges, mouldings, and lights to protect them from overspray.
6 – Removing Existing Paint
We sand the damaged area to expose the layers of paint and primer, allowing us to rebuild the area layer by layer for a smooth finish.
7 – Filling & Priming
Damaged area is filled, then primed with a grey base coat similar to the factory application. It’s cured with an Infrared lamp and sanded before applying the colour.
8 – Painting
Using a compressor and spray gun, we apply the pre-mixed paint in thin layers, drying each layer with heat between applications.
9 – Curing
The repair is cured for at least 45 minutes using Infrared lamps.
10 – Denibbing
Once cured and cooled for 15 minutes, the repair is denibbed with extremely fine-grain paper to match the surrounding paintwork.
11 – Polishing
We polish the repaired area to restore the car’s paintwork to its original shine.
12 – Completion
After removing the masking and packing up our equipment, your repair is complete!
